Where do I learn English in Footscray?
Navitas Skilled Futures runs SEE at Victoria University Nicholson, Building D, Level 3, Room D319, 1300 798 111. VU EAL certificates sit on the same campus. Enquire on 1300 842 864. AMES at 37 Albert Street still offers funded Skills First and ACFE English if you are eligible. The library at 56 Paisley has computers, wifi and conversation programs that change. Angliss Neighbourhood House is 2/11 Vipont. West Footscray Neighbourhood House is Level 1, 539 Barkly.
Kangan AMEP classes are Broadmeadows and Docklands. Yarraville Community Centre is not Footscray. Do not list those as 3011 desks.
What is AMEP vs SEE vs Skills First?
AMEP is the Adult Migrant English Program, free for many permanent and some temporary visa holders. AMES no longer delivers AMEP in metropolitan Melbourne. You will be referred to another provider.
SEE is Skills for Education and Employment: language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills for eligible job seekers. In Footscray that is Navitas at Nicholson.
Skills First is Victorian funded training. AMES and VU use it for some English certificates. Hours and visa rules differ. Take your visa grant to the enrolment interview. Do not assume the first logo you search is the right program.
Where is Centrelink and Medicare?
Services Australia Footscray is 75 Moore Street. Weekdays 8:30am-4:30pm. Centrelink, Medicare, Child Support, ATO and DVA. Book where the centre requires it. Interpreters are available. This is not the plaza job desk and not the Napier Street civic hall.
Who helps me get a job?
WISE Workforce Australia is Shop 40, Level 1, Metro West, Albert and Paisley, 1800 161 231. MatchWorks is Suite 2, 186 Barkly Street, weekdays 9am-5pm, (03) 9689 6344. They are different providers. Bring your job-plan letter if Centrelink sent you.
AMES can still talk employment on Albert Street. Gaps Education at 90-96 Maribyrnong Street is a private RTO for vocational courses. Confirm the qualification before you pay.
How do I get a Victorian licence?
Australia Post Footscray at 182 Barkly Street is a VicRoads photo point. Weekdays 9am-5pm. Licence renewals and a new photograph when you already have the renewal and the card. Phone 13 13 18.
It is not the driving test and not a first-issue learner counter. Tests stay at a VicRoads office such as Deer Park. This directory does not list driving schools that only "serve Footscray" from another suburb.
What do people get wrong?
They walk into AMES asking for AMEP. They go to Footscray Park for EAL. They treat Australia Post as the test centre. They mix WISE and MatchWorks. They send a friend to Yarraville or Sunshine and call it Footscray.
